Online Vendors Are Starting To Support Apple Pay For The Web

apple-pay-for-webEarlier this year, it was announced that Apple Pay could soon be used for the web. Right now Apple Pay is pretty much limited to physical stores, meaning that if you wanted to make a purchase online, you’d have to do it the “normal” way which we guess works just fine, but if you prefer having a one-stop solution, Apple Pay for the web was a feature to look forward to.

The good news is that it looks like several online vendors have started to accept the payment method. As noted by AppleInsider, some websites such as Squarespace have activated support for Apple Pay. We are also looking at other retailers such as Wayfair and Time Inc. where customers will be able to purchase magazine subscriptions using Apple Pay.

This is actually a pretty big deal because as AppleInsider points out, activating Apple Pay for the web is a way to encourage retailers to support the platform. Since it doesn’t require them to purchase new hardware like an NFC terminal, the barrier to entry is considerably lower, which in turn helps Apple Pay generate more momentum which hopefully will be translated in the real world as well.

That being said just like in the real world, the online retail space has their fair share of payment methods too that already work, so whether or not more retailers can be bothered to adopt the system remains to be seen.
