Announced at the TechTable Summit in New York, Meyer revealed that there will be a partnership with Resy Eater, a digital reservation startup. The Apple Watches will given to key staff members at Meyer’s Union Square Cafe which will also be loaded with the ResyOS app that has been designed to help with reservations, mobile payments, point-of-sales systems, and more.
The idea is that by wearing the watch and using the app, staff members could be notified of certain things, such as when a VIP walks into the restaurant, the floor manager will be notified. They can also be notified of orders that are taking too long, or when a bottle of wine has been ordered, in which the sommelier will be notified.
It is an interesting idea and one that we are curious to see if it will help improve efficiency. After all restaurants have been successfully managing guests all these years without the need for smartwatches. That being said, if the project is a success, Meyer’s other restaurants under the Union Square Hospitality Group could also be adopting the technology.
