It seems that these days anything can be made into a movie. Back in the day when smartphones were still relatively new, games like Fruit Ninja was one of the big hitters in the mobile gaming scene, presumably because it demonstrated how games could really take advantage of a smartphone’s touchscreen display.
Now according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like the classic mobile game will be made into a movie. The report has learnt that New Line has managed to secure the rights for the movie which will also see Tripp Vinson as the movie’s producer. It will also feature J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani, both of whom will be writing the script.
While the exact plot is unclear, the basic premise of the movie involves “a team of misfits who are recruited to become Fruit Ninjas in order to save the world.” We’re not sure how this will pan out, but like we said, anything these days can be made into a movie. For example there was an Angry Birds movie which did surprisingly well.
There is also an upcoming movie based around Minecraft, and let’s not forget the Tetris movie which is based on a video game that has pretty much no story to begin with. In any case we guess we’ll have to wait and see if this will work out for New Line, but given past experiences with video game movie adaptations, we’ll be keeping our expectations low.
