A couple of months ago, Amazon launched the “Prime exclusive” smartphone program through which it’s allowing Prime members to purchase mid-range handsets unlocked and off-contract as long as they are willing to put up with advertisements on the lock screen. Amazon selects the devices that are included in this program and today it has added the Moto G Play to the list.

Prime members can pre-order the Moto G Play today from Amazon, it will be shipped starting September 15th. Amazon is asking $99.99 for this unlocked device.

Moto G Play’s sibling – the Moto G – is also available as a Prime exclusive. It has slightly better specs than this handset. The Moto G Play features a 5 inch 720p display and it’s powered by a Snapdragon 410 processor coupled with 2GB RAM, 16GB of expandable storage with a 2,800mAh battery.

It also features an 8 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front camera as well as Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The handset is compatible with all four major carriers in the United States. If you were to buy the Moto G Play at retail you would have to pay $150 for it. Amazon is offering it to you with a $50 discount with a caveat.

You will have to put up with advertisements about products and services available from Amazon. However, the developer community has demonstrated methods which can do away with advertisements on these subsidized devices.
