Microsoft has spent a lot of time and resources to build its Surface brand as one of the best for Windows-powered devices. Last year, the company expanded the Surface brand with its first ever laptop, aptly called Surface Book. If reports are to be believed, Microsoft might be in the process of expanding this brand to another PC form factor. Microsoft is reportedly going to launch a Surface-branded all-in-one PC late next month.
Whatever the company ends up calling this all-in-one PC, it will inevitably be seen as Microsoft’s iMac competitor, and it’s unclear right now how strongly it will compete against the iMac which has been a set product in the market for decades.
The Surface-branded all-in-one PC is apparently codenamed “Cardinal,” and it’s expected to be unveiled at an event in New York City next month. The Verge hears from “sources familiar with Microsoft’s Surface plans” that the company is looking at a late October hardware event.
It has been reported in the past that Microsoft is working on as many as three Surface AiO PCs, testing 21, 24, and 27 inch models but it can’t be said for sure right now if all or one will be launched and which screen size it’s going to be.
No word as yet on the specifications or features of this Surface AiO PC but it’s expected that Microsoft may refresh the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 at its event next month as well with latest processors from Intel.
