According to ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, who has had a pretty good track record for these sorts of things, Microsoft apparently has no plans to launch a new Band device this year, or even if at all, meaning that the Band series of fitness wearables could be discontinued. Foley also learnt from her sources that the team that was trying to get the Band to run on Windows 10 had been disbanded.
In a statement provided to Foley by a Microsoft spokesperson, “We continue to invest and innovate in the Microsoft Health platform, which is open to all hardware and apps partners across Windows, iOS, and Android devices. We also continue to sell Microsoft Band 2 and remain deeply committed to supporting our customers and exploring the wearables space.”
As Foley notes, it sounds like Microsoft is pretty much hinting that there will not be a Band 3. Obviously we shouldn’t jump to conclusions so take this with a grain of salt for now, but would the lack of a Microsoft Band 3 be disappointing news to you?
