It has been confirmed that the iPhone 7 Plus has 3GB of RAM, quite a step up for Apple considering that it was only last year that they bumped the RAM of the iPhone 6s/6s Plus to 2GB. The iPhone 7 on the other hand continues to maintain that 2GB of RAM, so the question is, will there be a noticeable difference in performance?
On paper and in theory more RAM is obviously good, but what about in real-life? Will that difference be very obvious? That’s what the folks at 9to5Mac tried to find out when they pit an iPhone 7 against the iPhone 7 Plus and compared how the phones would perform when handling multiple tabs in Safari.
In the test, each iPhone had only Safari running and with two dozen tabs open with the same websites in the same order. They then begun going back to each tab to see how long it would before the pages would refresh since they were no longer being stored on RAM, something that we’re sure older iPhone and iPad owners are familiar with when dealing with multiple tabs.
The good news is that in their findings, there does not appear to be any noticeable difference. As 9to5Mac points out, this is hardly a scientific test and there might be other apps that might be able to take advantage of the added RAM, but in day-to-day usage, we guess not and it’s really a matter of preference and your budget.
