Google’s interest in virtual reality is obvious. The company has unveiled several initiatives, such as with Google Cardboard, their semi-DIY VR headset, and also with the Google Daydream VR platform for smartphones. Now it has been a while since we’ve seen Google make changes to the Cardboard, so does that mean a change/update is coming?
In a post by Google’s UK Twitter account, the company seems to be teasing (via The Next Web) some Cardboard-related news. Interestingly enough they seem to be teasing the announcement to take place between the 29th of September and the 1st of October, and this is a bit weird considering that on the 4th of October, they already have an event planned. It would have made more sense for Google to share their news then, right?
In any case we’re not sure what Google has planned. The teaser doesn’t really tell us much save for a looping GIF of the outline of a pair of lenses that is presumably from the Google Cardboard VR headset. It is possible that it could just be some kind of promotional event for the Cardboard, like discounts, or maybe giveaways, but either way check back with us on the 29th of September to see what all the fuss is about!
