Google’s Pixel & Pixel XL Phones Could Be Announced October 4

google logoIf you might recall, there was a report from yesterday that revealed that Google’s upcoming handsets this year won’t be falling under the Nexus brand. Instead the HTC-made handsets codenamed Sailfish and Marlin are said to be known as the Pixel and Pixel XL respectively, thus corroborating rumors that Google was dropping the Nexus brand.

That’s all well and good but the question remains, when will these devices be made official? According to the folks at Android Police, who reported the original rumor, it seems that we have a date and that date is the 4th of October. Google has yet to officially send out invites to any particular event, but given that previous Nexus handsets have been announced around that time of the year, we guess it isn’t really that surprising.

In addition to the Pixel and Pixel XL phones, the 4th of October event is also rumored to see other products being unveiled, such as a 4K Chromecast dongle which could be known as the Chromecast Plus or the Chromecast Ultra. There is also Google’s own Daydream VR viewer device which might be called the Daydream View.

As Android Police notes, this isn’t the first time the 4th of October date has been mentioned. Earlier last month Droid-Life also suggested the 4th of October, so if anything this report more or less corroborates the claims, but until we see an actual invite, take it with a grain of salt for now.
