Google’s Daydream Platform Now Open To All Developers

It is safe to say that devices like consoles, computers, smartphones, and tablets would not be as popular as they are today if not for its available software. While companies could develop their own first-party software, it simply isn’t as efficient as opening it up to third-party developers, and this is also pretty much key if new technology such as virtual reality were to thrive.

The good news is that if you’re looking forward to seeing more apps for VR in the future, Google has announced that its Daydream SDK is now out of beta. In case you did not know, Daydream is Google’s VR platform for smartphones and by launching the SDK and opening it up to third-party developers, hopefully we will be able to look forward to a ton of VR content when Daydream phones start to populate the market.

According to Google, “Today, we are proud to announce that the Google VR SDK 1.0 with support for Daydream has graduated out of beta, and is now available on the Daydream developer site. Our updated SDK simplifies common VR development tasks so you can focus on building immersive, interactive mobile VR applications for Daydream-ready phones and headsets, and supports integrated asynchronous reprojection, high fidelity spatialized audio, and interactions using the Daydream controller.”

At the moment there are no Daydream-ready phones in the market. However the Nexus 6P is the only phone that is approved to handle the SDK, but even then it isn’t ideal, but it is still a good start and hopefully we can expect some interesting apps to come out of this.
