Think of Garmin and you might be thinking of navigational systems or maybe even fitness-related wearables. However just last month, Garmin launched the Virb Ultra 30, an action camera that looked like it was designed to compete against the likes of GoPro, but the only downside is that it was priced much higher at $500.
GoPro then announced their latest offering in the form of the GoPro Hero5 Black which was priced at $400. Given the company’s history, reputation, and experience with making action cameras, plus the cheaper price tag, it would make more sense for customers to flock to GoPro for their action camera needs, right? This is why we’re not surprised to see the Garmin Virb Ultra 30 get its price slashed to better compete against them.
Now we’re not sure if the price cut is a direct reaction to the launch of the GoPro Hero5, or if maybe Garmin realized no one was biting and slashed its prices anyway, but either way we guess it is good news for customers who are looking for alternatives to the GoPro. At the same time customers who might have made the initial investment can’t possibly be too thrilled about the price cut either.
In any case like we said, it now provides customers with more options to choose from with similar price points, but at the end of the day you’ll have to decide which action camera suits your needs the best.
