The report claims that the upcoming Galaxy S8 will feature an Exynos 8895 chipset, and will also use ARM’s Mali-G71 GPU which is apparently 1.8 times more powerful than the Mali-T880 MP12 found in the Exynos 8890 that powered the Galaxy S7. It is also reportedly faster than the one that will be used in the Snapdragon 830, or at least that’s according to the benchmarks.
So what does this mean? Virtual reality is expected to be the next big thing in technology, and earlier this year we heard that Samsung had plans to make the Galaxy S8 VR-ready with a high resolution display, and with such a high-res display, a powerful GPU will no doubt be needed to help power it, which is why this report makes sense.
Prior to this we had heard Samsung was in talks with NVIDIA and AMD over mobile GPUs, but if this latest report is true, it seems that Samsung’s potential collaboration with those companies might not necessarily be happening anytime soon.
