Canary today announced a new product that it’s not going to crowdfund, this product is immediately available for pre-order via the company’s website. It’s called the Flex. This is Canary’s contribution to the wave of small security cameras. The Flex is a small weatherproof camera that can either be plugged into an outlet or powered using its internal battery.
Flex is quite similar to Canary’s existing product which couples the security camera with air quality sensors. Flex offers just the camera. If it detects movement it starts recording and if the camera feels something unusual is up it will automatically push an alert to the owner so that they can see what’s up through the app.
The camera obviously needs a Wi-Fi connection to make that happen, but Canary is also launching a 4G LTE mount in collaboration with Verizon so that the camera can continue to be accessible even if there’s no Wi-Fi.
The company says that the Flex can be powered by its built-in rechargeable battery for many months. It’s also portable and weatherproof which makes it great for outdoor use as well. This functionality does come at a price, though.
Canary’s second product – the Flex – is now available for pre-order through its website for $199. The price is comparable to other smart security cameras that you can get on the market today, like the one from Nest.
