It is still called the Echo Dot and while on the surface it looks the same, Amazon has made some changes under the hood, such as a more powerful voice processor that is said to be better at voice recognition. It is also priced cheaper at $50, saving customers a good $40 off the older model that was priced at $89.99.
It will also come in a new white finish if that’s what you’re after. In addition, Amazon has also included new Echo Spatial Perception technology into the Echo Dot, and if you’re wondering what that is, basically if you have multiple Echo Dots placed around your home, the technology will be able to detect exactly which device you are talking to, meaning that the Echo Dot in your kitchen won’t be straining itself trying to understand what you just said while you were in the bedroom.
This technology will be offered to existing Echo and Echo Dot devices via a software update. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, the new Echo Dot is available for pre-order for $50 and will be released on the 20th of October.
