If you’re looking to relive some nostalgia, you’ll be pleased to learn that Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb has confirmed (via DualShockers) that Call of Duty 3 will be added to the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program starting today, so you can go ahead and dust off the disc and start playing.
Call of Duty 3 was originally released in 2006 meaning that it has been 10 years since its release. Given the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, we can’t say we’re too surprised regarding the timing of the launch of the game in the program. However to be fair, older Call of Duty titles such as Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops are part of the list, so we guess it was only a matter of time before Call of Duty 3 made its appearance.
In case you’re unfamiliar, the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program is basically where older titles on the Xbox 360 are made playable on the Xbox One. This means that if you already own some games that you’d rather not go to waste, and if you no longer have your Xbox 360 console with you, it won’t be a complete loss.
However games for the program are completely at the discretion of the developers, meaning that if they don’t want their games to be backwards compatible, then you’re out of luck. You can check out a list of the current library on the Xbox website.
