Safe to say nothing has come to fruition yet, but we could be very, very close. According to a report by Consomac (via 9to5Mac), a wireless Apple device with Bluetooth and NFC capabilities has recently been spotted at the FCC. Unfortunately the FCC filing does not reveal much, although 9to5Mac notes that it is a low-powered device rated to draw between 100mA and 700mA and between 5.5V and 13.2V.
The filing shows part of a diagram that shows two torx screws on the bottom plate for the device, and given that the Apple TV uses similar screws, we’re potentially looking at a device similar in dimensions. It is unclear as to what this product could be, especially since most of Apple’s new products have already been announced, and if it were the MacBook, it certainly wouldn’t sport these specifications.
Some have suggested that the device in question could be an iBeacon, while others say it might be a POS system, but in any case we suppose only time will tell what sort of device this could be.
