Apple To Partner With Sony To Bring Apple Pay To Japan

Apple Pay’s rollout around the world is a bit slow, but considering that the various banks and credit card companies that they have to deal with, we guess it is understandable, even though it might be frustrating for some users. That being said, Apple Pay has yet to make its debut in Japan, but that could soon happen with a partnership with Sony.

According to a report from Nikkei, it seems that Apple and Sony will be partnering up to help bring Apple Pay into the country. Apple partnering up with local companies isn’t new, like we saw in China when Apple worked together with UnionPay to bring the service to the country, so like we said, this partnership isn’t really all that surprising.

The report claims that Apple will rely on Sony’s FeliCa Networks meaning that they’ll already have an existing infrastructure to work with, as opposed to having to create their own. This will allow users of Apple Pay in Japan to use the service at convenience stores or vending machines that supports FeliCa’s platform.

There is still no word on when Apple Pay will launch in Japan, but the report claims that this will most likely take place in 2017 instead of this year, so users in Japan will have no choice but to remain patient.
