According to one of the publication’s sources, “There’s definitely interest. When Tim Cook was here, the government raised the issue of making in India. It is after that Apple started thinking of doing something in India which is long term.” This is actually not the first time that Apple has considered launching manufacturing operations in India, but judging from this report it sounds like Apple could be making a more serious consideration.
Like we said, manufacturing in India would help reduce the price of the phone. Right now the iPhone is expensive due to the taxes levied on the device as it is imported into the country. By manufacturing the phone locally, those import taxes could be removed which in theory should make the phone a little bit more affordable.
With the iPhone starting to experience a decline in sales for the first time ever, we suppose it would behoove Apple to start exploring options to make their phones more accessible to the masses, and this could be one of them.
