Amazon’s Alexa personal digital assistant has come a long way since it was first launched with the Amazon Echo. The company has even started expanding it to its tablets now. A plethora of new skills have been taught to Alexa over the past few months and the latest allows it to read your tweets out for you. This has been made possible by Twitter which has released an app for Alexa.
In order to use this Amazon Alexa skill, users will first need to authenticate their Twitter account. Once that’s done, all they need to do is say “Alexa, open Twitter.” It doesn’t get simpler than that.
This will prompt Alexa to start reading all of the tweets on the user’s Home timeline, when asked, it can also read Mentions, Likes, and Retweets. Voice commands for these actions go like “Alexa, ask Twitter for my own tweets,” “Alexa, ask Twitter has anyone retweeted me?” etc.
Alexa will also be able to provide users with general information from the micro-blogging service, information like local and global trends. Those who own an Alexa-compatible device like an Amazon Echo speaker can now access the new Twitter skill in the Alexa app from where they can authorize their Twitter account.
