Next Year’s iPhone Will Be Called The iPhone 8 [Rumor]

2017 will mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, which is why if you believe the rumors, Apple has stuck to a familiar design with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and that they are reserving a brand new design for next year’s handset as a form of celebration for the iPhone hitting the 10th anniversary mark.

So does that mean that next year’s iPhone will be called the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus? Turns out maybe that isn’t the case. A report from Business Insider (via 9to5Mac) has revealed that 2017’s iPhone will actually be called the iPhone 8, and apparently they learnt this from an actual Apple employee in their Israel offices.

According to the report, “Speaking to Business Insider outside Apple’s Herzliya office at Maskit Street 12, the Apple employee said staff in Israel are working on what’s coming ‘next’ in Apple’s product line, giving a specific mention to ‘iPhone 8.’” Of course whether you can believe the authenticity of the report is entirely up to, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it were true.

Apple has already disregarded previous traditions by keeping to the design of its past two iPhones for, and with 2017 being the 10th anniversary, we guess it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that Apple could disregard their traditions again by skipping the “S” series and moving up an entire number, but either way it is still a bit too early to tell, so do take it with a grain of salt.
