Yahoo today announced the expansion of its distribution partnership with Hulu as it introduced a new TV watching experience called Yahoo View in collaboration with the online video streaming service. Yahoo View is now one of the only ways to watch Hulu’s movies and TV shows for free as the online streaming company gears up to shut down its free service and primarily focus on its subscription service.
Yahoo View will allow users to watch the latest five episodes from some of the best shows by networks including NBC, ABC, and Fox eight days after they are first aired. Yahoo promises countless TV shows, movies, anime, Korean drama, British and Latino content as well as clips and other content on Yahoo View.
Yahoo’s Tumblr is home to many dedicated fan communities which is why it’s not surprising that this new TV watching experience is being linked to Tumblr as well. Users will be able to take their experience further by browsing photos and GIFs from Tumblr fandom.
The new site also has a “beyond the episode” section which visually locks enhanced content which might reveal spoilers about the video currently playing, and features picture-in-picture view so that users can continue watching while they browse other content without ever having to leave the screen.
The content Hulu is providing on Yahoo View is going to be supported by ads so keep that in mind. Yahoo View is live now on desktop and the mobile apps for iOS and Android will be released in the near future.
