The semi-good news is that Sony appears to have plans to get the Nougat ball rolling because they have launched the Xperia Beta Program for the Sony Xperia X Performance handset. What this means is that if you have the handset and sign up to be part of the beta, you will be able to get your hands on a pre-release beta build of Android 7.0 Nougat for your handset.
Of course this is just a beta meaning that what you see might not necessarily be what you get. It could also mean that you’ll encounter quite a few bugs, incomplete features, and you will also have to provide feedback to Sony on your experience. However for those not part of the beta, this is good news too.
This would seem to indicate that Sony is already beginning work on the Android 7.0 update, so hopefully the time from the beta to the final release is too long. That being said, the beta program is available to the Nordics, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Iceland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands.
