It was previously rumored that Xiaomi could launch its Daydream-compatible virtual reality headset on August 1st but the company hasn’t made any announcement yet. It’s now being said that the launch is actually going to take place on August 4th. Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed anything about this headset at this point in time so it’s going to be a surprise for most of us.
Xiaomi’s first VR headset is likely to support the company’s own headsets. There haven’t been any leaks yet which show us what the headset looks like though it’s expected that Xiaomi won’t stray too far from Google’s reference design for a Daydream VR headset.
However, since Daydream will only be compatible with smartphones that support it and are running Android Nougat with a VR mode for high performance, it means that old Xiaomi smartphones will only be able to get a better VR experience out of this headset. They won’t be able to access Daydream functionality.
If Xiaomi’s history is anything to go by, it’s quite likely that the company’s first VR headset is going to be quite affordable, and that’s one of the reasons why Xiaomi’s products have become so popular in a very short span of time.
