So far for the most part, Sony’s PS4 has always been ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox One. The console has been the better-selling of the two, although exactly by how much we can’t be sure as Microsoft has yet to provide the official figures, but regardless it seems that according to the numbers provided by the NPD group, Microsoft did pretty well in July.
According to the numbers, if they are any accurate, it would seem that the Xbox One console actually outsold Sony’s PS4 for the month of July. However it should be noted that this is only for the US market, but it’s still an accomplishment all the same. That being said, it is possible that the price cuts Microsoft introduced in July could have something to do with it.
Speaking to VentureBeat, Xbox marketing boss Mike Nichols said, “We’re honoured that Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in July, and that total gaming hours on Xbox consoles globally were up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours.” Nichols also adds that the recently released Xbox One S appears to be doing pretty good as well.
“Following its release last week, the 2TB launch edition of Xbox One S sold out in the U.K. and is nearly sold out in the U.S.” That being said, we have to wonder with the PS4 Neo and Xbox Project Scorpio in the work, how will this situation play out when those upgraded consoles are released?
