However fans of George R.R. Martin should not despair because it looks like we could be getting more of the author on TV in the future. In a post on his blog (via The Guardian), Martin announced that Universal Cable Productions had acquired the rights to the Wild Cards series of books. Note that the books aren’t written entirely by Martin, but rather they are a collection of stories that have been edited by him and Melinda Snodgrass.
Even so, chances are we can still feel some of his creativity in them all the same. The first of the Wild Cards series made its debut back in 1986, which is about a good decade ahead of A Song of Ice and Fire. Whether or not the books will translate well into a TV series remains to be seen, but given the success of HBO’s Game of Thrones, we suppose there are a good many people out there who are optimistic about these as well.
There is no word on casting or a release date yet, but Martin states that development will begin immediately, so we’ll just have to keep an eye out for it in the future.
