The original Transformers: The Movie was release back in 1986, meaning that it is 30 years old. The thing with old and classic movies is that while they still retain their charm and storytelling, unfortunately quality has always been an issue because let’s face it, display technology back then isn’t what it is today.
If you’ve ever popped in a VCD or DVD and tried to watch it on your Full HD monitor or 4K TV, you know that it’s definitely not as crystal clear or as sharp as modern movies. This is no doubt a “problem” faced by Transformer: The Movie, but the good news is that it looks like the movie will be getting a 4K remaster, bringing its visual quality up to par with today’s releases.
The remaster will be done by Shout! Factory where it is planned for a release later this fall on Blu-ray. In addition to the movie getting a visual update, there will be bonus features such as a documentary called ’Til All Are One which includes interviews with the cast and production crew; audio commentary by the movie’s director Nelson Shin, story consultant Flint Dille, and star Susan Blu.
There is also expected to be featurettes, animated storyboards, trailers, TV spots, and more. There are also plans to create a limited edition copy of the movie which will include all the content mentioned above, except that it will come in a steelbook case, perfect for collectors. In the meantime you can check out the trailer in the video above, and one of the bonus clips below that shows some the detail that was managed to get restored thanks to the 4K remaster.
