Ubisoft is making another movie based on one of its games. It has confirmed that The Division is now being adapted for film. The confirmation came in today but it was actually rumored a couple of months ago that Ubisoft could be looking to make a movie out of The Division. The movie is going to star Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead. He has previously worked with Ubisoft on its film adaptation of Prince of Persia back in 2010.
The exact role he will be playing in this movie has not been revealed yet but it has been confirmed today that he will be joined by Jessica Chastain.
Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed any additional details about the movie as yet which leads to speculation that the project is still in very early stages. Aside from these two actors no other names attached to the project have been announced.
It’s not known right now who is going to direct this movie and who is going to write the script. It’s also unclear how much the movie is going to diverge from the game’s storyline.
The game takes place in a futuristic New York City that has suffered a disastrous outbreak of smallpox. It turns the city into something of a war zone.
“The pandemic-stricken streets of The Division are filled with countless stories of love, loss, treachery, and heroism,” says Ubisoft, adding that “but we’ll have to wait to find out what avenues the film will explore.”
Ubisoft is also working on a film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed which stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, it hits the big screen on December 21st this year.
