A mid-range HTC smartphone that has long been forgotten is finally getting the Marshmallow update on Sprint. Those who own an HTC One E8 on Sprint should keep their eyes peeled for an update notification as the carrier has now rolled out Marshmallow for this handset. Users have been waiting for this update for a very long time, it has been so long that Marshmallow is now on the verge of being succeeded by Android Nougat.
The HTC One E8 is basically a 16GB HTC One M8 that ditches the metal body for plastic and trades in the M8’s 4 megapixel rear camera for a 13 megapixel camera. It landed on Sprint about two years ago with Android 4.4.2 KitKat installed straight out of the box.
HTC One E8 hasn’t received a lot of updates on Sprint. Only three were released one of which added Wi-Fi Calling, the other brought a patched for the Stagefright vulnerability, and the last major update as the upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Android 6.0 for HTC One E8 brings all of the features and improvements that you have come to expect from a Marshmallow update. Sprint also mentions in the changelog that this update features “all current security patches.”
This is most likely the last major update for this handset as it may not get Android Nougat.
