Many new cars from select manufacturers come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support in stock infotainment systems but if you’re not ready to splurge on a new car just yet, there are options if you want to access those platforms in your old car. Kenwood and Pioneer have both created head units that support these platforms and now Sony has finally come out with its own head unit that enables access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Sony XAV-AX100 head unit has support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the extension of iOS and Android in the car, respectively. Both offer a custom UI that has been designed for easy use while driving, advanced mapping features, applications, Siri and Google Now access, and much more.
The XAV-AX100 features 55watts x 4 Dynamic Reality Amp 2 and EXTRA BASS low boost circuitry to reproduce clear sound at any volume with deep bass. It also features a 10-band graphic equalizer and more.
The company does not provide any specific information about the touchscreen itself but does say that it’s “clear and responsive. Sony is going to release the XAV-AX100 in-car audio system across North America by late November this year. It has a price tag of $499.99.
