One of Apple’s earliest products is up for auction. Now we’ve seen many rare Apple computers fetch a decent amount of money in auctions but this one just might break previous records. It’s said to be an Apple I that was assembled by none other than Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs himself. You can imagine how even the idea of Steve’s hands touching this board is going to inflate its value. So far it has fetched bids of over $500,000 in the auction.
This rare Apple I computer was initially listed for auction back in July this year. It was listed for $255,000. Soon after the auction was reported on by Recode, bids soared to as high as $505,000 today.
The report suggests that this is one of the earliest machines built by Apple in Jobs’ garage. Apparently, there’s a good chance that this particular computer was built by Jobs himself in his parents’ garage in 1970. The computer is accompanied by its original manuals, a cassette tape with BASIC programming, and additional items.
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has also said that this machine is rare because no known PCB boards of this type were ever sold to the public.
