There have been a few reports recently of the Galaxy Note 7’s battery exploding while the phone is being charged. No further information is available on those reports so it’s unclear whether a counterfeit charger is to be blamed, but it appears that Samsung is seriously looking into the matter. The company has confirmed that it has delayed Galaxy Note 7 shipments to perform quality tests.
It merits mentioning here that Samsung has not confirmed if the reports of exploding handsets is the reason why it’s delaying shipments. The company has simply said that it’s conducting additional tests to verify “product quality.”
The company hasn’t even revealed the markets in which it’s delaying shipments or what kind of additional tests it’s conducting to find out if it’s a big problem or just limited to a particular batch of Galaxy Note 7 units.
Samsung also hasn’t confirmed how long this delay is going to last so there’s no way of ascertaining where shipments are going to be delayed and for how long. It’s unclear what steps the company is going to take if it finds out that something is wrong with the device.
Customers who have already purchased and received their units will be anxiously following this. If there’s a big issue, Samsung will need to address their concerns as well. It would be a situation that Samsung will certainly want to avoid.
Nothing can be said for sure right now, though, so we can just and see what the result is after Samsung runs these tests.
