This would seem to suggest that Pokemon GO is the first of its kind, or is it? Over in Korea, the local media doesn’t seem too thrilled by the game and has called the game a copy of a Korean mobile title that was released several years ago. Dubbed Olleh Catch Catch, the concept behind the game is similar to Pokemon GO, in which it involves the use of augmented reality while players went around trying to catch various monsters using their phone.
The game was limited to Korea and was released by local carrier KT back in 2011, but unfortunately the concept did not really catch on and was eventually shut down. We guess there are some similarities, but then again how truly original are things these days? Take for example technology like fingerprint scanning.
It has been implemented into smartphones before, but until Apple came along several years later with Touch ID that the feature has truly become mainstream. Let’s not forget the fact that Pokemon is a much more established and beloved franchise which no doubt helped its adoption, but what do you guys think?
