Turns out the rumors were true. According to a report from The Korea Herald who quoted Samsung’s Mobile Chief Koh Dong-Jin as saying, “It is true that we are reviewing the rollout of a new tablet with 128 gigabyte built-in memory in China because Chinese companies are aggressively doing marketing with high-capacity memory.”
In some regards, Koh is right as we have companies such as OnePlus who are putting out handsets with 6GB of RAM, although why Samsung didn’t just include it for all models in the first place is unclear. Koh also stated that the company would be looking at feedback from various regions to decide whether it should also make its way to other markets.
“We will accept diverse opinions from various regions and also consider whether that move will disappoint Korean consumers.” However don’t be surprised if they don’t. Samsung has been having a hard time in China where local manufacturers with their much cheaper handsets are getting a leg up on them as well as Apple.
