Mortal Kombat’s gory nature would actually make for a pretty interesting movie, although admittedly back in the day the original Mortal Kombat movie was a tad cringey. However filmmaking has come a long way since, so we’re sure that some of you guys are curious about how the next Mortal Kombat movie might be like.
However the bad news is that you’ll have to wait. According to director James Wan (The Conjuring, the Saw series) who spoke to IGN at the Television Critics Association press tour, he plans on taking his time with the Mortal Kombat movie to ensure that they get it right. Given how video game movie adaptations tend to turn out, we guess taking their time isn’t such a bad idea.
According to Wan, “The key here is to try and do it right. I don’t want to rush into it. So right now, we’re just trying to take our time to make sure it’s heading in the right direction. I think that’s more important than trying to rush through it and pump up something that no one likes.” He also notes that it might be a while before we actually see it.
With regards to the development of the movie, Wan said, “It’s still cooking away. With that particular project, that’s a really cool property that I loved growing up as a kid. Besides the game, even the movies as well, I kind of enjoyed them for what they are.” Unfortunately there is no word on when this movie will be released, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
