It was officially confirmed last week that Minecraft Windows 10 Edition beta will be getting virtual reality support in a few days. Those who have an Oculus Rift can fire up Minecraft and play it in virtual reality. The update that flips the switch on VR support for this title is being rolled out today, it’s available as a free download for people who already own Minecraft Windows 10 Edition beta.
It has been possible to play Minecraft for a few months now because Minecraft is already available to play in virtual reality using the Samsung Gear VR with a compatible Samsung smartphone.
However, the Oculus Rift is a more capable headset, and players will certainly find the VR experience to be better when they hook up the headset to their gaming PC and give Minecraft a go in virtual reality.
Windows users will find that it has support for mice as well as the Xbox One Controller. Microsoft has optimized Windows 10 DX11 performance to further improve the VR experience and has kept VR-specific options separate which means players can retain their traditional Minecraft experience and also enjoy the game in virtual reality when they want to.
The company is yet to say if and when Minecraft will get support for the HTC Vive VR headset.
