The Nokia Lumia 525 was launched about 3 years ago, which means that by now and by the standards of the mobile industry, the handset could be considered practically ancient. If you did buy the phone and you have it lying around somewhere, or maybe if you’re still using it, how about breathing some new life into it?
Thanks to XDA Senior Member banmeifyouwant, he has managed to figure out how to get Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow up and running on the Lumia 525. He has since posted several videos which shows the operating system running on the phone, although from what we can tell, it does involve a bit of tweaking here and there which might not necessarily be recommended for the newbie user.
Unfortunately if you were hoping for an installer and source code, banmeifyouwant claims that the handset’s emmc died, and that trying to get a new Lumia 525 right now is kind of hard. “The original plan was to release an installer and upload source codes next weekend. BUT! My Limua 525’s emmc died. This can be a reason for a late, because I need to buy a new 525 for development, and it’s hard to find here.”
We’re not sure if we will ever see its release, but we suppose given that a 3 year old phone can be hacked to run Android, we suppose other Lumia devices could potentially run it as well, so do keep an eye out for such mods and ROMs if you are so inclined.
