A post on Weibo recently revealed the company’s alleged LeEco Le 2S smartphone, which according to the rumored specs could very pack as much as 8GB of RAM under its hood. This will also make it a first for any smartphone maker as the highest we’ve seen so far would be 6GB in the OnePlus 3, the Vivo Xplay 5, and the Galaxy Note 7 for China.
At this point we have to wonder if maybe 8GB is overkill. After all there are actually still some laptops being sold these days that come with 4GB as the default, and if a PC doesn’t even need that much RAM, what about a smartphone? Like we said, we guess it depends on what you plan to do with it, although we guess more RAM does help in keeping apps active in the background as well as keeping browser tabs alive, amongst other things.
In any case there is no word on when the LeEco Le 2S will be launched, but the good news is that the company has plans to break into the US market later this year, so maybe if an 8GB of RAM smartphone is what you’re after, you might be able to get your hands on it this year.
