Countless car manufacturers have had to recall millions of cars due to faulty Takata airbag inflators that have been linked to several injuries and fatalities. Millions of cars have so far been recalled and the number continues to grow. Jaguar Land Rover is the latest addition to the list as it has now issued a recall for 54,000 cars that are fitted with potentially faulty airbag inflators from Takata.
The issue is with Takata’s front passenger-side airbag inflators which are required to inflate the airbag. However, the parts can go bad after being exposed to high humidity for a long period of time. The faulty parts may then cause the inflator to explode and push shrapnel inside the car instead of inflating the airbag.
Jaguar Land Rover has issued a recall for 54,000 cars in the United States. These include the 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rover SUV and the 2009-2011 Jaguar XF sedan.
JLR will actually be completing its recall in four waves and is eventually going to bring in more than 100,000 cars. The waves are prioritized by the cars that are most likely to feature the faulty inflators.
Owners with affected cars that have been reinstalled will need to take their car into the dealership to get it inspected, and if needed, wait until the faulty part is replaced at no cost to them.
