Ever since Apple introduced the 5K iMac, many were wondering if their Thunderbolt displays would be updated, but they were not, and instead they appeared to have been discontinued. However according to Gurman, Apple is working with LG on developing a new standalone monitor with a 5K resolution that presumably would serve as a replacement to the Thunderbolt displays.
The report goes on to add that we can also expect a refreshed iMac and MacBook Air, but in terms of specifics it is unclear. The report also highlights the MacBook Pro update which will apparently be thinner than its predecessor, sport a flatter keyboard design (which we’re not sure if it is necessarily a good thing), and the OLED touch panel that will replace the function keys.
Safe to say that you should probably take it with a grain of salt for now. Apple will be hosting an event on the 7th of September in which it is believed that the new iPhones will be announced, so don’t expect the new MacBooks to be announced then as it is expected to be launched at a later event.
