Ford Plans To Ship Fully Self-Driving Cars By 2021

At the way things are progressing, we guess it’s not that hard to see that self-driving cars could be the way of the future. Pair that with “smart” cities, it would allow cars and cities to talk to each other which could potentially reduce the number of accidents, as well as allow traffic to flow easily since everything could potentially be automated.

However that’s a discussion for another time, but first we would need self-driving cars, and this is something that Ford thinks that they will be able to accomplish in the next 5 years. The company has recently announced that they plan to start delivering self-driving cars by 2021, but these aren’t just regular self-driving cars.

Ford plans for these cars to be fully self-driving with absolutely control by the driver whatsoever, meaning that these cars will be shipped without a steering wheel, brakes, or even gas pedals. This means that passengers just get in the car, tell it where to go, and they won’t have to do anything else.

5 years is still quite a long way to go, and it will be interesting to see how regulators will be able to respond and adapt the existing rules to suit self-driving cars by then. But in the meantime, how do you guys feel about a fully self-driven car? Scared? Excited?
