First-Gen Apple Watches Rumored For Hardware Refresh

Usually what happens when a new piece of hardware is introduced is that the older one tends to get forgotten about. However it seems that will not be happening with the first-gen Apple Watch. According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims that Apple will actually be refreshing the first-gen Apple Watch hardware.

Now you might have heard/read earlier reports of the Apple Watch 2, which is expected to come with a faster processor, larger battery, and new sensors. However according to Kuo’s report, the first-gen Apple Watch will be getting a hardware refresh as well and will be seeing a speed increase, most likely thanks to a new chipset or a faster-clocked processor.

However apart from the speed increase, the rest of the watch will remain the same as the original version. This means that users shouldn’t expect the new sensors/thinner display or the rumored waterproof feature. Presumably this means that the first-gen Apple Watch will be priced lower in order to make it more attractive to customers who want to get into the smartwatch game.

This isn’t the first time that Apple has done this as they have kept around existing models while new models have been released, but it’s interesting if they were to actually refresh the hardware for an older model, but as is the case with all rumors, take it with a grain of salt.
