Square Enix’s MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is currently playable on the PC and the PlayStation platform. This means that Xbox One gamers are pretty much out of luck, although this was something that Xbox boss Phil Spencer was hoping to change, at least according to a report from earlier this year.
There is good and bad news on that front. The bad news is that the game is still not available on the Xbox One, but the good news is that neither Microsoft nor Square Enix have completely given up on the possibility, at least according to the folks at DualShockers who spoke to the game’s producer and director, Naoki Yoshida.
According to Yoshida, he told DualShockers that he had a meeting with Microsoft a week before Gamescom about cross-platform play. This was an issue that kind of prevented the game from launching on the platform to begin with, however from what Yoshida has said, it sounds like both companies aren’t quite ready to throw in the towel just yet.
Yoshida stated that both companies have been in regular talks and they have another one scheduled around the Tokyo Game Show where Microsoft’s team from Seattle will be coming in to discuss the details of cross-platform play. Of course one has to wonder if it might be too little too late by the time they get around to it, but as long as Final Fantasy XIV’s popularity holds, this could be something Xbox One gamers can look forward to in the future.
