Sony has recently promised to patch the vulnerability, but it seems that BlackBerry has beaten them to it. The Canadian company has recently announced that they have successfully patched the Quadrooter vulnerability for both the PRIV and the recently launched DTEK50, and that the patch is now rolling out to its users.
According to the company’s Director of BlackBerry Security Alexa Manea, “As soon as we learned about QuadRooter, we immediately began to develop, test, and integrate a fix to deploy through our rapid patching process as quickly as possible. I’m happy to announce that a patch for all of the QuadRooter vulnerabilities is now available for the PRIV and DTEK50 users.”
The patch should already be live and if you haven’t installed it yet, you can pull it by navigating to your phone’s Settings / About phone / System updates and you should be good to go. We expect that other OEMs should be following suit in the near future, but it looks like BlackBerry is certainly living up to their commitment on security.
