AT&T is shaking up its wireless plans today. The new plans offer a bit more data but they are also priced higher than their predecessors. AT&T’s announcement follows a similar move made by Verizon last month, however, the country’s second-largest carrier says that these plans give customers a better price per megabyte of data.
AT&T’s cheapest data plan now costs $30 while it previously used to be $20. For this price, subscribers get 1GB of data while the old plan only provided 300MB.
The carrier is asking $40 for a 3GB plan, $60 for 6GB, $80 for 10GB, and $90 for 16GB while the 25GB and 30GB plans have actually become a bit cheaper. These plans also include rollover data, unlimited talk and text in the country, unlimited texting to 120+ countries, and more.
Like Verizon, AT&T has decided to do away with overage fees for subscribers who get on its new data plans. They will no longer have to worry about getting a bill shock after they have consumed all of the data allotment on their respective plan.
T-Mobile has long been calling on both Verizon and T-Mobile to give up overage fees and while the country’s largest carriers have stuck it out for a long time, they have finally decided that it’s a step they need to take to remain competitive in this market.
