Hollow Batteries Could Be The Key To Apple’s ‘Project Titan’

It has long been rumored that Apple is making their own electric car. When the vehicle will make its debut is anyone’s guess, but it hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning out fresh information. The latest report comes from Korean website ETNews (via MacRumors) who suggests that hollow batteries could be a key feature in the electric car.

So what are hollow batteries? Basically if you’ve ever charged a phone or a laptop, you’ll know that it sometimes can get a bit warm. This is natural, but obviously if the battery can stay cool, it would be more efficient. With these alleged hollow batteries, apparently airflow is not an issue which in turn allows it to cool better, and also reduce the need to install separate cooling devices.

It also helps ensure the battery doesn’t overheat and explode, which obviously is a big no-no when it comes to cars. These hollow batteries are said to be made by a small Korean company whose employee count is around 20. The company’s name was not mentioned due to an NDA, but MacRumors, after some digging, have speculated it could be a company called Orange Power.

Never heard of them? Don’t worry, we haven’t either, but assuming this is true, it looks like Apple’s work on their rumored Project Titan electric vehicle is progressing rather nicely.
