We weren’t sure what could be next for the company, but now a report from Recode has revealed that Apple’s plans for TV have shifted quite dramatically. Instead of directly offering a streaming service, like what they did for music with Apple Music, Recode reports that Apple could be considering offering a digital TV guide.
This means that Apple will act as the middle person in which they will tell its users what they can watch, and where they can watch it, such as from HBO, Netflix, ESPN, and more, and all of which can be done without users having to open up each app individually. Essentially Apple’s plans is to become a hub, a one-stop shop for all things TV.
This actually makes some sense as it would be much easier for Apple. As Recode points out, this leaves the question of money to be between users and the distributors/programmers. Assuming this is true, we still have no idea when this service will be launched, so until then it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt.
