Amazon Wants To Create An Echo-Only Music Streaming Service

In terms of music streaming, Amazon has their own in the form of Prime Music, although given that you would need a subscription to Amazon Prime in order to use it, it isn’t as accessible compared to say Spotify or Apple Music. We heard back in June that the company could be preparing a new streaming service, and now more details might have been revealed.

According to a report from Recode, they have learnt from industry sources that Amazon is in talks with record labels and publishers for their music streaming service, but apparently this service will be an Echo-only service, meaning that you will need to own the Amazon Echo device in order to be able to use it. Once again this throws up the barrier to entry like Prime Music.

However the upside is that if you were to subscribe, you would only have to pay $4-5 a month versus the $10 that other platforms are charging. We suppose you could argue that the Echo will provide other beneficial features, so it’s almost like a win-win situation, similar to how signing up for Amazon Prime has its own rewards, but if all you’re after is a burger, you don’t really need the fries or upsized drink, right?

There’s no word on when this alleged Echo-only music streaming service will be launched, but we suppose that will also depend on how the talks go with the labels and publishers, but what do you guys think? Is an Echo-only service a good idea?
