Prepaid carrier Cricket Wireless is offering a pretty good deal on a mid-range handset. The Alcatel Idol 4 – a handset that was announced earlier this year – is now available for purchase in the United States from Cricket Wireless. It’s offering the handset for $200 along with a compatible virtual reality headset. This is a good offer for those looking for a cheap entry into the world of VR.

The handset itself isn’t anything to write home about but then again, you get what you pay for. It’s a budget smartphone with respectable specifications that get the job done.

For $199 you get a handset that is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, has 16GB of onboard storage, a 13 megapixel rear and 8 megapixel front camera as well as a 2,610mAh battery. Interestingly, the recently announced BlackBerry DTEK50 is a rebadged version of the Alcatel Idol 4.

Alcatel didn’t bundle this handset with the VR headset back when the Idol 4 was released but Cricket is selling it with the headset. It’s not as good as the Samsung Gear VR but certainly better than the Google Cardboard VR viewer. It can play content from Alcatel’s VR store and from Littlstar.

The Alcatel Idol 4 is now readily available for purchase with its VR headset from Cricket Wireless for $199.
