Microsoft’s digital personal assistant Cortana first arrived on the company’s smartphones and gradually made its way to the desktop. The company is now expanding Cortana to almost all of its platforms and that includes the Xbox as well. Next month’s major update is finally going to bring Cortana for Xbox One, and those who own the console should know that Microsoft is not going to force them to use Cortana on Xbox One.
Some might be concerned about Cortana being forced upon them for Xbox One but that’s not the case. Those Xbox One owners who are more than happy to stick with existing Kinect Xbox voice commands will be able to continue using those without ever having to enable Cortana on the console.
Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra mentioned this in his tweet about a new preview build being released tonight for the next major update for Xbox One. He said that gamers will have the option to choose between Cortana or Xbox voice commands so it’s entirely up to them, Microsoft won’t make it mandatory for users to rely on Cortana when it lands on Xbox One.
The big summer update for Xbox One is scheduled to be released in the coming month. Aside from Cortana it’s also going to add access to Windows 10 apps on the console. Some user interface improvements are included in the update as well.
