Windows 10 For Education Will Not Come With Cortana

Introducing a voice assistant like Cortana to a computer operating system was a pretty nice touch by Microsoft. It helps promote the use of the feature which could prompt users to download it for their phones, and it also makes it unique in terms of operation, which is why when Apple announced similar plans for Siri, we weren’t that surprised.

That being said, it seems that while Cortana on Windows 10 is one of the platform’s more unique features, Microsoft has decided that for the education versions of Windows 10, they will not be bundling Cortana with the platform, although we’re not sure why that is, but it looks like students will not be able to use the feature.

“Windows 10 Pro Education builds on the commercial version of Windows 10 Pro and provides important management controls needed in schools. Windows 10 Pro Education is effectively a variant of Windows 10 Pro that provides education-specific default settings, including the removal of Cortana.”

Perhaps it’s a privacy issue, or maybe they don’t want students to use Cortana to bypass any safeguards that educators might have put in place, but either way we suppose the focus here would be more on the educational value of the platform rather than Cortana.
